Where you from
« on: February 10, 2012, 10:09:29 AM »
Sean …. And everyone else

Seems like we had this a while back but IT has gone away.

I thought IT was a nice feature and helped me a lot in keeping up with family here.

So Sean and everyone else– what say you.  Can we have IT back?

What is IT?  Well IT was showing the STATE where posters were located.  I understand we may not want to give our city and address but State seems harmless enough.

OK I know the thingybob about privacy and if most on here are opposed to showing the state where they live then leave it off but I found IT a nice feature.

So here is the poll.

Leave STATE off and not show it with our name when showing post.

Put State back and show it with our name when posting.

So as to give Sean an idea what we think reply with  1- leave off   or 2 put back on

I like knowing which state someone is from. . .  some things are more local, and don't apply similarly to me in Michigan.

Since many of us have met each other, and I believe one actually has to give some information to Sean to become a member, I feel "safe" here and thus comfortable posting my honest thoughts.

I prefer to keep the state I am in a secret. Mostly Confusion.

Update: Ok, OK I live in Oregon.

I'd like to see the state... so I can say, those dang yankees... and west coasters...

Seriously, it helps to know who's in your state so you know you are dealing with the same laws and seasons.

We're up in Nor-Cal, out in the boonies.
I wouldn't care if you had my address, my big **s dog chases off bears for fun.
Nobody gets near the house (even if we're home... good news, bad news)

I would be nice to know what region of the country the post was referring. Everything changes based on where you live, and some advice might be more appropriate if we had more info.

Figure out where I'm from, and what I do???

You are on a landlord forum, so I bet you live in SoCal and count your money all day long just like all the other landlords in this world.

I too wouldn't mind seeing the location back.

I couldn't figure out how to add it to my name... but I did add it in the signature section.
Everybody can already add it on their info page, but I'd rather see it up front.

I find highly annoying when you see this (usually on other sites):

"hi I'm new and I have a tenant on a verbal lease who won't pay rent and has an unauthorized pit bill and is growing weed in the basement and cusses at the nuns in the neighborhood who also rent from me.

How do I start to let them know that I will threaten to evict them; what are the laws in my state?

- Bob

Or:

I am interested in tax foreclosures in my area. How do I learn how to do this?

In fact I suggest that to register you have to include your state, which shows up on your login. And what's wrong with a name?  A first name, or a nickname that you want to be called is not hard, and the anonymity defense is not valid
