Unfortunately, these people never stop to think where that money they are getting comes from.  If we were all on disability, there would be no disability because there would be no one paying into it.  Duh.  That's the problem now.  They are handing it out willy nilly.  Maybe we landlords have the wrong idea.  Maybe we should be sponging off society.  The tenants think we do anyway.

I've wondered just how our country will fare if it continues on this way.

Sometimes I'd like to have the red pen that marks through those things in the budget that need tweaking.

Yes! 50% of my tenants are now on SSI. Most got on SSI after they had rented from me for 3 to 5 years. Yes you heard me right. The ones on the government dole are long term tenants.

How are we affording this? IMO we are affording this by funding these programs with OPEC money. The great American secondary economy.

Who me? I know nuh-thing I tell you NOTHING!

I finally got to meet one. A couple with not much teeth and too much weight to walk around with came to look an my 3 bedroom today.
He is on disability, she is finalizing a $28000 lawsuit and SSI has been approved when that is done. (My guess is that her last work would have been five years ago if the lawsuit is finally clearing. )
Oh, and their 25 year old son doesn't need to fill out an application... He has never worked. Guess what...wait for it...He is on disability.

One last tidbit they told me; they have really bad credit but they have always paid their rent.

I didn't get around to asking what they'd do with the third bedroom. They don't know nothing about computers, so it won't be their office.

I guess this is what I get for having property near Walmart.

Social Security Benefits for Obesity:

(Keep in mind that I'm a Registered Dietitian and the above is particularly depressing as it often negates any desire to improve ones health through weight loss).

I’m having trouble with this article

It says  Many believe that the underlying condition may be genetic, and note that dieting and exercise have limited results.

Then they say sedentary lifestyle and eating disorders contribute to obesity.

Later they say Treatment may include changes in diet, exercise

Dieting and exercise have limited results because most folks do both for limited periods of time.

It's got to be a lifestyle change and that's much harder than simply dieting and working out for a couple of months.

Many folks blame the problem on genetics or a slow metabolism but in truth, it's due to a fast fork and really poor food choices.
