Went to HD the other day to use the bidroom for the 3 apts we've got to overhaul. Had planned on using the Allure we'd been getting as well as getting more for the house.

Spent an hour or so working on the list, getting the numbers, talking to the guy at the pro desk only to have our bid come back w/ only $70 off! WTH? Last time we did it we saved a few $100. To say I was miffed? I almost said the F word outloud and I only say that when Phil has mad me really really mad. I mean, REALLY mad--or the idiot brother. lol

Anyway, on to Lowes. We talk to our guy, Big John, at the Pro desk, says he can work from the HD list but go look at the flooring to see if you find anything comparable there. Hadn't liked the look of the vinyl plank before but that was months ago when they came out w/ some paper thin crap that I could break with 2 fingers. 'lo and behold there is a new section of Armstrong stuff. Looking it over I see a color "gunstock" that is marked down from $57 to $31 a box and it covers 36 sq ft as opposed to the 24 in Allure.

Phil checked reviews, John finds out that the Walmart used it in their eye and jewelry center several years ago and it's still going strong so sold on that. We're going to give it a whirl. I picked up all the clearance of it I could from 2 stores and got enough to do 4 apts-living/dining/kitchen. If we don't like it of course I'll schlep it all back. But I'm thinking it's got to be better than sheet vinyl and certainly better than carpet. I'd put it in the whole apt including the bedrooms if I could convince Phil to do that.

Anyone else used it?

A year ago we put the Armstrong product down in a dining room and small hallway in one of our older homes. I had pulled up the 1960's shag carpeting expecting to find hardwoods and instead found 1950's vinyl that I was not going to attempt to remove.

The dining room is a main walk through to the kitchen, laundry room, third bedroom, etc.. so it was regularly used by the tenants. A year later it has shown no wear and tear at all and still looks quite good.

It was easy to work with, even cutting around door openings and attempting to fit it on the edge of the walls that were (of course) out of square in these rooms.

If it is better than the stuff a couple of years ago, it could be a good option.
On a side note:
I had to use Allure for my first crawl space hole. I found that the tile metal/plastic edging will work as a mid floor end to the allure. Looks kind of nice.

it will be discontinued by Armstrong. Lowes has limited supply and is dumping it at 0.88/ft. I am buying all I can get my hands on from each of the Lowes in the area. It seems to hold up good - though I think there is a slight curl at the seems

I ended up with 57 boxes. That should take care of 4 aps, we are rehabbing 3 so this will be perfect. Seriously if I could get Phil to put it throughout the whole apt I would but he's adamant on carpet in the bedrooms.
